Preconceived Noceans is a project that aims to construct a series of conceptually narrative tales of surfing’s misunderstood cultures and experiences. The film focuses around the Great Lakes, a prime example of an underestimated surf culture. The five vast bodies of water in this region hold high potential for producing excellent freshwater waves. But more importantly, it produces the possibility for the pursuit of happiness, and maintaining the lifestyle thought to be left on the beach by the ocean. To be a surfer goes way beyond the water. It really just begins once one exits the water…
